Germany - Vacation 2 - Leaving Paris
*More Paris* Louvre. This night we took a train from Paris to Bologna (and then to Rome). We shared our couchette room with another college-age pair, an Italian girl, and an Italian man. I fell asleep pretty quickly, but I woke up to a commotion. The train was filling with smoke that made your eyes sting. The Italian girl was frantically trying to open the window, but it was locked. People were crowding the hallway, and the attendant finally came through and unlocked the windows. Before long, the train stopped in the countryside, and people got out and stood by the tracks. As it turned out, only my car had the smoke; the rest of the train was fine. After the train personnel figured out what to do, we all had to get back on the train until the next station. Once there, we had to take all our luggage with us. The attendants went through every room in the neighboring cars, woke up all the occupants, and shuffled us in wherever there were empty couchettes. Fortunately, the people in my room were pretty polite about it, and I was soon asleep again. Megan got screwed. There was a mother with like a dozen kids in her room. She almost didn't get her pillow, and there was plenty of crying.
